Safe Gas Installation Guide

If your boiler is over 10 years old it could be costing you quite allot of money to keep it running as older boilers tend to waste a lot on energy and can be harmful to the environment. Research shows that older boilers convert as little as 60% of fuel that they use, making for a very inefficient way to heat a home and produce hot water. We install Worcester Bosch Group, condensing boilers and other boilers that have proven to improve efficiency by 90% which in turn means you could be saving 30% on your heating bills. If you think your boiler is unpredictable; if you find that you have hot water in the header tank or it is suddenly very loud, it may not mean you need a new boiler, but it is something that an engineer should take a look at. We can then advise on the best procedure for you.Our aim is to ensure all our customers have the most cost efficient boilers and that their home’s heating & hot water system is functionally sound.

Step 1

Call our office on 02890343665 and choose a time and date that suits you, we also attend evenings to accommodate for people working during the day. Once your appointment is arranged you will receive a notification of the time and date agreed.

Step 2

Paul will attend on the agreed time and date, he will survey your property and give you advise on what system and boiler that would be best recommended for your property. And he can answer any questions that you may have. Paul will send your quote within 5 minutes of leaving your property with all of the specification agreed. Your free survey quotation can take up 60 minutes.

Step 3

If you decide to accept our quotation we can arrange a booking date for you. But there is a few things we need to know before we can arrange a date.
• What is your gas meter date?
• Have you applied for a boiler replacement grant?
• Have you applied for the affordable warmth grant?
• Are you applying for 0% Finance?

If you have a meter date we will schedule your installation for 7 days after the meter date. We will be in your property for 2 full days to allow the work be completed at a quality level.

If you have been accepted for a boiler replacement grant, we would need a copy of the approval pack, so that we can claim the amount awarded back for you, this will save you having to pay us the money for the amount awarded. We can also complete the building control application for you too, click here for further information.

If you have been accepted for the affordable warmth grant, we can claim back the entire amount awarded, which means you would not have to pay a penny and we can completed the building for you too, click here for further information.

If you are interested in the 0% Finance we can complete a credit check for you within 5 minutes and you will get an answer straight away.. The 0% finance is only available for oil to gas conversions. But there is interest bearing at 14.9% available for boiler replacements click here for further information.

Step 4

Once we have all the information needed we arrange a booking date for you. Our team of engineers will arrive at 8.30 the first morning the work is scheduled to begin. Our team leader will have a job sheet with the specification of work agreed, he will talk though this with you, so that you are reminded of the work being carried out.

Step 5

The team will arrive at 8.30 and set up on arrival by laying down there dust sheets and covering all areas possible, walking through the again to ensure you are happy with the work scheduled to be carried out.

Step 6

On completion of the job, we like you to be in the property so that the engineer can walk you through the work completed and check that you are happy with the work carried out. Once you are happy with the work we will issue you all the relevant paper work and complete your warranty, which take the stress of you having to complete. We are an accredited installer for all the boilers that we fit, therefore we can arrange any warranty calls if needed, which save you spending time on the phone trying to arrange and also takes the stress of you.
If you have been accepted for any Grants or applied for Finance we will arrange for the following.

Survey engineer can attend your property again for you to complete the satisfactory forms or you can come to our office and complete.

We then arrange for the Building Control survey engineer to attend your property to complete their checks.

Building control will issue the certificate, once we receive this we can submit the approval pack and claim back the awarded amount for you. We will look after everything, saving you time and keeping it as stress free as possible.

HAS YOUR BOILER DEVELOPED A FAULT AND YOU NEED A BOILER REPAIR.

Are you experiencing a fault with your boiler? If so, call our office on 028 9034 3665.

Boiler repairs are a common feature come autumn every year. Some are lucky enough to get away with some minor trouble shooting when an extra load is put on the boiler in the shape of central heating. Those of us who are familiar with common boiler faults and there solutions save money because we do not have to call in gas engineers.. However there are some common boiler faults which do require the services of qualified gas engineers.

Some common boiler faults which have a huge effect on the central heating performance and are most probably requiring a gas engineer are:

  • Leaking boiler- There could be a number of reasons for a boiler to be leaking for instance too much water pressure, overheating of water or even a crack in one of the cast iron sections of the boiler. This is a very common boiler fault which plays havoc with central heating and can be expensive as it will most definitely need gas engineers to visit.
  • Loss of pressure- If the boiler is losing pressure then there may be a leak in the central heating systems. The common place to lose water is the valve on the radiator.
  • Boiler not heating water- This is the main function of a boiler and effects everything from washing up to central heating. There can be a number of reasons for this very common boiler fault and gas engineers should take a look at it.
  • Boiler not igniting- This is also a common boiler fault and it is recommended that it should be corrected by gas engineers.
  • No central heating- Boilers are made of different components and any one could have played a part in central heating not working. Checking the fuse followed by reading the error code on the front display can take us to the heart of the problem. Then we can decide if a gas engineer is needed.
  • Frozen condensate pipe- This is another common boiler fault especially in relatively colder winters. This happens when the condensate in the pipe which goes through the outer wall to the outer drain freezes. This normally does not require gas engineers and can be fixed by pouring hot water on the frozen portion of the pipe.
  • Noisy boiler or noisy central heating- This can be due to lime scale build up in the heat exchanger causing it to rumble. Noisy or gurgling and rumbling central heating pipes are also a result of lime scale build up in the pipes or air in the system. This is also a common boiler fault to be fixed by gas engineers.

Boiler Servicing

Gas manufacturers recommend that your boiler is serviced every 12 months to keep your boiler working safely and efficiently at all times and to reduce the risk of breakdowns.

What’s more, an annual service can save you 10-15 percent of your energy bills.

Does your boiler need serviced? Call our office today on 02890343665.

A REMINDER ABOUT ANNUAL BOILER SERVICING

The routine annual boiler servicing is something almost every household has to go through. The harshness of the weather in recent years has brought annual boiler servicing to the top of our to-do list before the onset of winter.

Whether it’s heating or hot water, boilers are at the heart of the modern home. Yet most of us forget about our boilers until they start causing us trouble. It is best to find a professionally trained person for annual boiler servicing.   Looking after your annual boiler servicing will reap the following benefits:

Save money on repairs

Full-blown boiler problems can often develop from minor faults. An annual service will increase the chance that these are picked up on and fixed before they become a problem, saving you money and future hassle.

Reduce your heating costs

The engineer who undertakes your annual boiler service will make sure that it is running as efficiently as possible. This will go a long way towards making sure that you minimize your heating bills.

Preventing carbon monoxide poisoning

Boilers that aren’t properly installed, maintained or ventilated can produce carbon monoxide. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, drowsiness, nausea, breathlessness and stomach pains. Signs are hard to spot and can be confused with tiredness or a cold. Unfortunately this silent killer can’t be seen or smelt, so it really is important to make sure your boiler is serviced at least once a year.

Flues & Voids

Contact us for a hassle free inspection hatch installation 02890343665.

At the end of and after 2012, any registered gas engineer will place your boiler “At Risk” if they cannot fully examine the flue. They will formally advise you to fit inspection hatches in the appropriate places so that an inspection can be fully carried out. Until the hatches have been installed, the boiler will remain “At Risk” and put your family in danger from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning which can cause death or serious injury. You or your landlord will need to arrange for inspection hatches to be fitted.

You need to take action now!

Contact us for a hassle free inspection hatch installation by competent experienced tradesmen insured with public indemnity cover. We fit quality white powder coated, metal, BS fire rated access panels.

Although most of the affected boilers and flue systems are relatively new (installed since 2000), the risk of faults leading to the release of CO increases as the system gets older, especially if it is not serviced regularly. More comprehensive details can be found HERE

What we aim to do:

  • We aim to turn up on time or keep you informed of any delays
  • We always use dust sheets to keep work areas clean
  • We tell you what costs are likely to be involved for your particular property before we start
  • We keep furniture movement to a minimum
  • We explain exactly what we propose to do and where we will fit the access panels
  • We fit metal, white, 1 hour fire rated, 300mm x 300mm access panels where required by the ‘Gas Safe’ technical bulletin

Boiler Change

Is your old boiler costing you a fortune in fuel bills? Or has it broken down and now beyond economical repair? Do you need a combi boiler, condensing boiler or a system boiler.

A boiler change to a modern A rated high efficiency boiler is crucial to reducing your fuel bills and doing your bit for the environment by reducing your carbon footprint. When carrying out a boiler change whether it’s a combi boiler, regular boiler or system boiler we believe in installing quality products like Ideal or Worcester Bosch.

These manufacturers are so confident in their products that they now offer Up to 7 years guarantee parts and labour. And yes we are accredited installer for Ideal and Wocester. 7 year parts and labour guarantee as long as you have it serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Our experienced staff are here to take you through the whole process and explain the pros and cons of each system.

Cleansing, Flushing & Filters

Central heating systems and boilers have become more complex and highly efficient over the last 15 years. This has been due to people and manufacturer’s being more aware of energy efficiency. This has spured people on to look at all the variables in heating system and work out why some systems seem to break down or cost more to run.

What has been found is that if pipe work becomes blocked it take more energy to pump water round the system and will cause excessive wear and tear on the boiler.

Simple things like flushing a system with a good cleanser like Sentinel x300 will remove flux and solder deposits and light silt and sludge.

Systems should have and inhibitor added to them like Sentinel x100 which stops hydrogen gassing, reduces noise and stops corrosion.

These products will prolong the life of the system and stop unnecessary wear and tear.

The other big change to protect the life of heating system, boiler and working parts is the introduction to fitting a filter. One of the most popular on the market is the Magnclean. The Magna clean twintech is highly efficient and will remove both iron oxide and other non magnetic dirt within heating systems.

Dual-action system protection

ADEY has extended its impressive product range with the addition of MagnaClean TwinTech®, the company’s first dual-action magnetic and non-magnetic filter. Advances in recent years have now created a totally effective dual-action filter all in one, eliminating virtually 100% of suspended black iron oxide and all other non-magnetic particles and debris from the system.

Immediate benefits

MagnaClean TwinTech is a proven technology and with its powerful magnetic and non-magnetic filtration characteristics, the benefits for new and existing central heating systems are immediate:

  • Powerful magnetic filtration
  • Exceptional non-magnetic filtration
  • Simple installation and servicing, saving time and money
  • Quick and easy chemical dosing
  • Longer central heating system life
  • Guaranteed for two years
  • Reduced carbon emissions

Is your central heating in need of a repair? Perhaps your boiler requires servicing? If so, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the professional team at Safe Gas for you heating repair: 02890343665.

Safe Gas engineers are capable of solving any boiler problem and all our boiler engineers are fully qualified and have a wealth of boiler repairs and fault finding experience. Our vans are well equipped with stock, this allows 99% of the repairs to be finished in one visit.

Oil boiler servicing should be carried out annually to make sure that your boiler remains safe, reliable and efficient. If oil boilers are left for a long period of time without a service, they can “soot-up”. This makes the boiler less efficient and less reliable, resulting in increased fuel consumption and higher maintenance and repair costs. Boiler servicing is also very important from a safety perspective, as during a service the boiler will be checked for damage, leaks and deadly carbon monoxide emissions.

To ensure that your boiler is properly serviced, it is important to make sure that you find a technician who is qualified in oil fired boiler servicing. OFTEC registered engineers are fully trained and regularly checked, to make sure that their safety procedures are up-to-date. What Is Included in an Oil Boiler Service?

During your service, the engineer will check that your boiler is in good working condition, as well as testing the safety and efficiency of your system. Oil boiler servicing usually takes around one hour, in this time the engineer will:

  • Visually inspect the boiler and all associated pipes or areas (including your oil tank and supply pipe), to make sure that they comply with current safety regulations.
  • Inspect and clean out the flue.
  • Replace or clean the oil filters and oil nozzle.
  • Check for water in your oil tank.
  • Use a flue gas analyser to check combustion.
  • Check the supply pipe for any signs of leakage.
  • Remove the boiler casing and clean internal components (such as the heat exchanger and burner).
  • Test all safety systems to make sure that they are functioning correctly (this includes any thermostats, pressure relief valves and burner lockout devices).
  • Ask if you have experienced any issues with the boiler.
  • Turn the boiler on to check that it is working correctly.

When your boiler service is complete, the engineer will give you an OFTEC CD/11 form. This will list everything that has been done as part of the service.

  • Where the smell is most noticeable?
  • How long the smell has been noticeable?
  • Whether any neighbours are affected?
